Tourist Attractions in the Philippines

The tourist attractions in the Philippines, an archipelago nation with over 7,000 islands, range from mountain hiking to an afternoon in the sun. There are many wonderful things to do in the Philippines. Visitors can try their hand at the roulette tables, dive beneath the waves, watch the sun set over the horizon and never leave their motel.

Cebu: The oldest city in the Philippines has miles of pristine coastland characterized by white sandy beaches. The Olango Wildlife Sanctuary sits on a tiny island just east of Cebu and has over 75 species of migratory birds that visit annually. The Jumalon Butterfly Sanctuary and Art Gallery has moth and butterfly enclosures where visitors can learn about these tiny colorful insects. Visit Santo Nino de Cebu, the oldest basilica in the city, or stroll through the home of the first Filipino Bishop in Cebu. Shoppers will find bargains and treasures such as hand crafts to artifacts from street vendors, boutiques and malls.

Tagaytay: If you are looking for great tourist attractions in the Philippines but you want a less hectic pace, you will find the city of Tagaytay is just the place for you. Enjoy a relaxing round of golf at the world-class golf course. Visit one of the many picnic groves, some with small amusement rides and horseback riding. Check out the People's Park in the Sky, formerly the unfinished palace of Ferdinand Marcos. You can visit St. Anne's Shrine on your way to the Hidden Valley or the Flower Farm. Gamblers will want to try their luck at the Banyan Tree Evercrest and Casino.

Palawan Island: Stroll along the underground river on a visit to St. Paul Subterranean National Park. The park is a series of connecting underground caves. Divers from around the world visit Palawan Island to photograph the amazing coral reefs and tropical fish that live in the area.

Adventures: Hikers will find the terrain of Mount Halcon and Banahaw exciting but difficult. Mount Apo in Mindanao is a comfortable walk where tropical forest life surrounds you. Featuring three peaks at its top, Mount Apo is known as a stratovolcano. Mount Pinatubo is a favorite of hikers, mainly due to its waterfalls and the views of the tropical canopy.

Sporting Events: Competitive and spectator sports are much-love in the Philippines. Take in a competitive game of jai-alai, or tae-kwon-do or a round of Frisbee golf. Horse racing, auto racing and even power-lifting are just a few of the sporting competitions in the Philippines. Swing away at one of the lavish golf courses on the islands. The Mimosa Country Club provides a few of Mount Pinatubo, while the ocean view from the course at Puerto Azul can definitely interfere with your concentration on that line drive at the 5th hole.

Water Sports: White water rafting is at its best on Cagayan de Oro River. With rapids that occur every few minutes and roller coaster ups and downs, rafting enthusiasts will not be disappointed. A rafting adventure on the Chico River, the longest one on the islands, takes you on a sightseeing tour of the interior. Scuba diving, snorkeling and wind surfing are just a few of the ways to enjoy the water, while surfers flock to the beach from August to February hoping to catch that perfect wave.

Nightlife: Cebu and Manila are considered the best for modern trendy night spots. If you want a mixture of romantic beach-front dining consider Puerto Galera. Nationally-known nightclubs include the Zu at the Shangri-la hotel and Inter-Continental's Euphoria.

Entertainment: Jazz performances are held every Sunday evening at the Makati, Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Nikko Manila Garden. The Cultural Center of the Philippines has regular ballet performances, plays and music concerts. Smaller theaters provide a wide variety of cultural performances. The William J. Shaw, Meriaco and Metropolitan Theater are two places where tourists can be treated to local performances.

Mountains, rivers and miles of pristine beaches are just a few of the many natural and cultural tourist attractions in the Philippines.
