Things to Do in Iceland

If you are looking for things to do in Iceland, we have some suggestion. For a unique, arctic experience, Iceland is the place for you; a great way to "get away from it all" and try some northern delights.

Puffin Island Tour: For fascinating bird watching, visit Lundey (which literally translates to "Puffin Island") off the southwest coast of Reykjavík. Although puffins are similar to penguins with their black-and-white colors and upright posture, they are in fact, not related. Unlike penguins, puffins can fly, flapping their short wings rapidly (up to 400 times a minute).

Northern Lights:- The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, are a naturally occurring, animated, display of lights in the sky. They are formed by a collision of the solar wind and the Earth's magnetic field. To see the Northern Lights, it's best to have a clear, and dark night. A visit between November and February is ideal. The Lights are one of the most amazing tourist attractions in Iceland.

The Blue Lagoon: This is one of the most popular Iceland attractions. This unique lagoon is the result of a lava formation. Some visitors believe that the heated water provides health benefits, particularly for skin care. The blue color comes from minerals in the white silica mud that can be found everywhere.

Skidoo Riding: Glaciers are becoming a more rare sight these days, so its best to catch them in Iceland while you can. Iceland is one of the few countries in the world with glaciers and there are many tours available with "skidoos," which is the term the locals use for snowmobiles.

Thingvellir National Park: Iceland's first national park was established to protect the old Parliament, which was founded in 930 and has convened until 1798. As a result, the park is a great way to learn about the history of the Vikings. The park offers an adventure filled with variety, including activities like hiking, horseback riding, and angling.

Whale Watching: Iceland is frequented by a wide variety of whales, both common and rare, including minke whales, humpback whales, and orcas (also known as killer whales). The tour boats have been well crafted over the years, often sporting whale-spotting success rates as high as 98%.

Jökulsárlón: This is Iceland's best-known and largest glacial lake. It is filled with icebergs that are likely to calve and break in front of your eyes. The picturesque location is known for its unique colors and shapes, and it is therefore popular for Hollywood filmsettings, including two James Bond films, Tomb Raider, and Batman Begins. The shore also has new and elegant restaurants that provide breathtaking views.

Reykjavík: This is the capital and largest city of Iceland, home of Iceland's first permanent settlement in 870. This gorgeous city has flat wide streets and brightly colored wood houses. Design and architecture are a major emphasis of Reykjavík. On the edge of Tjörnin Lake you will find the modern Icelandic National Gallery, and to the South you will find the National Museum.
