Things to do in Fiji

Visitors are sure to find fun things to do in Fiji, an archipelago comprised of over 300 islands basking in the sun. Fiji was originally inhabited by the Polynesian and Melanesian people. When the Europeans began sailing the Pacific Ocean the islands became home to shipwrecked sailors. Captain William Bligh is credited with discovery of the islands although a few ships had visited the area before 1789.

Viti Levu: The largest island in the Fiji chain is Viti Levu. Adventuresome, water- loving guests can dive with the sharks, ride the perfect wave or view an ancient shipwreck off the coast of this island. Volivoli Beach has kayaks to rent, snorkeling, and scuba diving from Volivoli Point. Bus tours are plentiful here. From day tours to week-long explorations allowing you to experience in depth the many wonderful beaches and hidden resorts that Viti Levu has to offer.

Wakaya: Privately owned, this island resort offers modern cottage accommodations. Located just east of Viti Levu, Wakaya features a nine-hole golf course, local entertainment and all activities, meals and laundry are inclusive. The only thing not included is the deep-sea fishing excursion that departs daily.

Malolo Island

Malolo Island: Imagine a place where families can explore a tropical wonderland, build sandcastles and swim in sky blue waters yet enjoy a few hours participating in activities only an adult or child could love. Malolo Island is that place. The Malolo Resort understands that children and parents need time to themselves. Special programs throughout the day and early evening for children 3 and up will keep them busy and safe while mom enjoys a massage and dad tries his hand at sport fishing.

Vanua Levu: Ocean-loving adventurers will find the island of Vanua Levu the place to be. Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort was built on a coconut plantation. "Kids love Bula" a program to introduce children to the culture of Fiji, the ocean and the world around them is a complementary service. Savusavu, an ever- growing ever-changing city, has a nightlife that is sure to provide parents with the perfect night out.

Matamanoa: Guests could walk the entire coastline of this tiny island if they wanted too. The scenic views of neighboring islands are breathtaking. The Castaway Island Resort has special day and evening programs for the kids. Pairing play with learning, parents can slip away for some quiet time knowing that their little ones are safe and learning about the Fijian people in a safe and supervised environment. Traditional accommodations, wood and grass-thatched huts, allow guests to choose from island, ocean or beach locations.

Turtle Island: Families traveling to this privately-owned island will find some of the freshest food around. Hydroponic gardens provide fresh vegetables year round. Activities for children include hikes, windsurfing and excursions to the smaller islands of the coast. Turtle Island has 17 gorgeous beaches surrounding the 500 acre coastline on this island in the Yasawa archipelago. The deep blue waters and spectacular scenery of Turtle Island provided the location for the movie "The Blue Lagoon."

With so many fun things to do in Fiji, it will be hard to choose an island that is right for you!
