Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary: The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is among the most well-known Indian wildlife reserves. The sanctuary was created by the Travancor royal family with the goal of preserving their hunting grounds. There are many animals there including elephants, sambars, wild pigs, mongoose, and almost 300 species of birds. You can see it by lake or on foot with a local guide.

Qutb Minar: Built between 1193 and 1369, the Qutb Minar is a massive tower that was built to solidify Islamic rule of Delhi. Some also believe that it served to call the faithful to prayer. It is approximately 238 feet tall and is decorated with calligraphy of verses from the Koran. India's oldest mosque is located at the foot of the tower.

Kerala Backwaters: Many visitors to India enjoy taking a boat trip through the Kerala backwaters. The Kerala Backwaters are a group of lakes and lagoons in southern India. There are five main lakes which are all linked with canals and rivers. There is beautiful tropical greenery and small villages that are almost undisturbed by the modern world.

Taj Mahal: The Taj Mahal is one of the world's most famous landmarks and is probably one of the most commonly visited attractions in India. It was built as a shrine for the body of Shah Jahan's favorite wife in 1631. There is a large garden surrounded by walls and a long reflective pond. The dome of the building has verses from the Koran and semi-precious stones on the inside. It is a magnificent feat of architecture that is as impressive today as it was when it was built.

The Golden Temple: The Golden Temple is the center of Sikhism. It is gold colored and sits on the water so that the reflection of the gold is absolutely dazzling. Nobody really knows the origin of the temple, but many speculate that it has something to do with the fact that the waters are thought to have healing powers.

Anjua Beach: Anjua Beach is a small village on the shores of the Arabian Sea. This area is known for its wild parties as well as its natural beauty. There are also a variety of delicious restaurants featuring cuisines from around the world and a great flea market. If you want an authentic souvenir from you time in India, this is the place to go.

Red Fort: Red Fort is located in Old Dehli and commemorates India's independence in 1947. On the eve of India's independence, the prime minister at the time gave a famous speech at Red Fort. Now, every Independence Day in India, the prime minister will give a speech there commemorating the event. Every evening at Red Fort, there is a sound and light show about an Indian legend called Lal Quila that you definitely shouldn't miss.
